Winter Getaway Packing List: Swimwear for Miami, Palm Springs & Cabo

DINGO Camo men's swim brief

It's 30°F at home and 80°F in Miami. If you're escaping the cold this winter, whether that's South Beach, a Palm Springs pool weekend, Cabo, Puerto Vallarta or Hawaii, here's how to pack smart, starting with the most important item in the bag.

1. Swim briefs (pack more than one)

Swim briefs are the move for a warm-weather getaway. They pack down to almost nothing, dry fast between pool sessions and look sharp at a pool party. Pack at least two or three so you've always got a dry pair ready.

  • Classic Black: the essential. Goes with everything.
  • Camo: for when you want to be noticed.
  • Navy: classic with a softer edge.
  • Utility: black with rugged side clips. The statement piece.

Or grab all three core colors in the Speedo Summer 3-Pack.

2. Underwear for every day of the trip

Rule of thumb: one pair per day, plus one. Mix it up with compression briefs for travel days and long walks, and jocks or thongs for hot afternoons and nights out.

3. The rest of the list

  • Reef-safe sunscreen (SPF 30+), plus an SPF lip balm
  • Sunglasses and a cap
  • A lightweight button-up for dinner
  • Linen shorts or swim-friendly shorts to throw over your briefs
  • Slides or sandals
  • A packable tote for the beach
  • A wet bag or ziplock for damp swimwear

Packing tips

  • Roll, don't fold. Swim briefs and underwear roll up tiny and fill the gaps in your bag.
  • Carry one pair of swim briefs in your carry-on, in case your checked bag is late. You'll be in the pool while everyone else waits at baggage claim.
  • Rinse your swimwear after every swim. Chlorine and salt water break down stretch fabric. More in our care guide.

FAQ

How many swimsuits should I pack for a week-long vacation?

Two or three. That way one's always dry.

Are swim briefs OK at a resort pool?

Absolutely. At warm-weather destinations, swim briefs are everywhere, especially at pool parties.

What size swim brief should I get?

Snug when dry, since fabric relaxes a little in the water. Check our size guide (S 28–30", M 32–34", L 36–38", XL 40–42").
